Chp. 1-5 study guide

1.       Sookan describes women in the U.S. as having much more freedom than she was accustomed to in Korea. Google “U.S. women’s roles 1950s” and read a little about the lives of women in this time period (remember that she mostly interacts with educated women who come from wealthy families). What were their lives like? In 3-5 sentences, describe what you found out.

In Korea women did not have much power. for example her mother doesn't have a job. In America during that time period, women also did not have much power. So, I think it is a same life she may had in Korea.

Fairness and Freedom Never Lose Power

  M
The most recent movie I saw is The Hunger game: Mockingjay. This movie is not same as its first and second seasons. The first and second seasons is more about the main character fight for the hunger game. However the third season is more about the war between two communities. But the topic is always about the fairness and freedom. The story starts at the time when the revolutionary took Katniss from the hunger game. Then Katniss became the Mockingjay, and she works for the revolutionary to against the president. However one of her best friends Petta is used by the president as a weapon to against Katniss.

Fairness is always be talked at every time period. In this movie we can see so many things that tell us we need fairness to make a better and brighter world, a world can protect most people's benefit. For example, in the movie there are two totally different system. The system in the government is that lower class perple have to work for the higher class. In that country you can see the poor people lives in small village, and some of their technologies are even slower than us. However the place that president lives is gorgeous castle, and the technology is too fast to believe. After Katniss was taken, the government kill everyone who live in Katniss's hometown. In the revolutionary community everyone get their own close, food, and space, even the highest people do the same thing. I consider that fairness is a way to hold everybody together to clear the estrangement. I hope everyone can have a fair life.

Not only the fairness is important, but also the freedom. In the first season of this movie, Petta loved Katniss so much, he even want to save her life by losing his life. However, the government control him, and they torture him everyday. They also give him some medicine that can change his memmories. At the end of the movie the revolutionary take Petta back. Then Petta try to kill Katniss when he sees her. They finally find out that government changed his memmories to make him hate Katniss. Petta does not have any choice and freedom. Everyone has power to choose what they want to do, like Katniss. She always does what she wants to do. She is so brave because she is the only one who can fight the government. I want to be a person who fights for the freedom.

Freedom and fairness are the very basic thing for us to fellow and protect. None of us would like live in a world full of violence and unfear things. However it is hard to clean all the bad thing. But, I still believe that we can do it, if we are all together, so start now let us do it together. We should do what Katniss did. If we see anything unfair or anything that take freedom away, we should stand up and try our best to stop them. I suggest that everone should watch this movie, because you can always learn something from it.

Be The One Who Change The World!

I am been reading Froen In Time for nearly 2 weeks. This book is written by Mark Kurlansky. He is the New York Times bestselling author, and he lives in New York City. This book is about Birdseye who invent frozen food. I have read 5 chapters of this book. The most interesting thing is the relationship between ideas and movements.

He is successful. Because his courage and ideas. He is not like others. He wants adventure, and he thinks that world needs more ideas in his time period. In my opinion, I think we should learn from him. We should always have both ideas and the courage to make them true.

The truth is that we do not even have our own ideas. We are different form robots because we have our own independent thought. In the book, Birdseye always has his own opinion, and he always try to do things in a new way, so he can invent frozen food. If he did not have that idea, we wouldn't have frozen food, which means that we cannot have cold soda easily in the summer. Every single idea may change the whole world so much, so everyone should think deeper and comprehensive. I was studying in China 1 year ago. To be honest, it was a tough time. I don't have to much time to think about anything except test and homework. Personal opinion was a stranger for me, because the only reading materials I had in school were school book. The only thing I did was that I copyed down what teacher said. I did not have much opportunity to ask a question. I am glade I am here now at Cheshire Academy. Now, I can ask questions; I can study what I am interested in; I can have so many informations from different place. I learn more, see more, and know more, and all of those things make me to think more independently and thoughtfully.

However, I cannot only have opinions without any movement. For example, Birdseye has a lot of ideas, and he does not stop working. He learns so many things about how to take care foxes, because he did not know before, and he had to take care of foxes for business. He is not the kind of person who has only ideas but doesn't want to work for it. It is not easy for everyone to make their dreams true. However we still need to work for it. I consider that everyone needs to do something that make you think it worth to life. This world always has so many people with huge dreams, however not everyone of them can make dreams true. We always have a obstruction called laziness. Nothing is easy to do. Making dreams true even harder. We should never give up. Birdseye faces to so many problems, and he solves every single one. We should be the one who chage the world not the one who is changed by the world. I would do what he did.
